The ARK
Risks & Challenges
Fulfilling these tasks in their entirety will take a lot of follow through, and attention to detail. I alone could not do all of this and while i may do more than a regular human could, the ARK could not exist without its partnerships, affiliations and random volunteers / contributors. As an events planner, teacher and organizer of people, i feel as i can overcome many of the obstacles in the way creating the ARK and seeing it functional, and with a team, I see us solving a lot of the unforeseen problems that arise. That being said, here are some points of concern.
Needing to work with tradespeople and in a rural area can be challenging at times A) to find the right person, and B) for them to be available. (Are you the right person? pls contact us!)
Being patient as we do not have all the money now, is always a challenge for groups ready for action. So to overcome this, the plan was extended to 2 years with clear milestones that allow us access to the space as we finish the main member run floor 1st and the costs are down with the initial investments towards insulation & air sealing, passive heat and solar power (it'll be as they say energy efficient).
The first winter, this winter coming 2019/2020 I plan on being in the house, with most if not all amenities, to see what its like. Of course this timeline is relative to the labour available to follow through. This is a risk i am very willing to take as I am a labourer as well, and plan on living in the space during portion of the renovation to see it through. There is a lot of physical work to achieve our goals, and thus we need a significant amount of help this summer. Through social media campaigns, a few small work events and partnering with local labourers I plan to overcome this risk.
