Permaculture Inspired Art Festival

The inspiration for this gathering comes from another solar-related event hosted by the 'Om Reunion Project' in southern Ontario, The Solstice Festival (props omies!). Solstice Festival is an event "where everyone pARTicipates in creating the magic, and volunteers to make it happen. The community that attends the festival helps to build an oasis of workshops, art, music, healing, camping and a community kitchen." For more information visit http://www.omreunionproject.org/

In the spirit of Common Ground Fair (US), Boom Festival (PO), and Solstice Festival (CA) we are creating a "transformational" festival. This transformation is both personal and cultural, enabled by healthy food, opportunities to connect deeply with the natural world, skills sharing, workshops, and of course art and music.  Here you'll acquire skills & insights applicable to daily life, whether that involves city or country living.

Vandana Shiva tells us that we have to first change our thinking before we can change our practice. The "Praxis Project" presents an opportunity for true "higher learning": seed-saving, soil-building, food-preserving, and other skills delivered in a context of earth democracy.

Since initiating the permaculture project in 2010,
Ditch Rich Nurseries developed several pioneering projects:

Reusing materials for building, reducing consumption
Regenerating habitats & ecosystems  (no till farming, analog foresty & permaculture)
Sustainable energy resources (solar, coppiced hardwood, check dams)
Sanitation (compost toilets & handwashing stations)
Soil Building (recycling/composting of waste & local inputs)
Promoting public transportation, cycling and car-sharing reducing CO2 emissions
Education and practice of permaculture principles and other environmental designs.
Volunteer Incentive Program via nbtimebank.org
Sponsorship plan to subsidize the costs associated with paying peoples time

Over the five year life cycle we've outlined for the Praxis Project, we intend to implement additional systems and principles:
  • Construction of a 'permaculture stage' in the forest (yr 1-3)
  • Passive irrigation for agroforestry via swales (yr 1+4)
  • Food Forest prepping, planting, grafting, trending (yr 1-3)
  • Eco-Art of various disciplines (yr 1-5)
  • Hosting of presentations by leading opinion makers/project leaders in the broad arena of environmental consciousness discourse (yr 2-5)
